New Client: University of Missouri-Kansas City Foundation and Honors College

Greetings from the University of Missouri-Kansas City campus, where I now have office hours twice a week. I'm wearing two hats: outreach consultant for the new Honors College and strategic communications and marketing consultant for the UMKC Foundation.

The university founded the Honors College last July. Its first dean is Jim McKusick, who was dean of the Davidson Honors College at the University of Montana while I worked at the University of Montana Foundation.  My role on Jim's team includes helping him get a fundraising program off the ground and providing guidance on marketing to prospective students.

I have an affinity for UMKC and the Honors College. My two brothers, David and Tim, graduated from UMKC. The university plays a vital role in the economic development of Kansas City, the city I now call home again.

I was an honors student in my college days. Now, my twin sons, Colin and Chris, are in honors colleges at their universities. Gayle Levy, associate professor and director of the UMKC Honors College told me today that academically talented, high-achieving students need individualized educational paths. I'm grateful to be part of a university meeting the needs of more students.
