Beth’s approach to marketing and communications grew out of her background in broadcast journalism. She began her career as a television news reporter and producer. Her career included 8 years at WDAF-TV in Kansas City. After 13 years in TV, she moved into strategic communications. Her expertise in visual storytelling helps organizations communicate complex messages effectively. She served in marketing and PR roles in large public organizations from 1999 to 2014. This includes two school districts, the Missouri Attorney General’s Office and the University of Missouri, Columbia.
From 2010 to 2014, Beth was vice president, strategic communications and marketing for the University of Montana Foundation. She built an effective communications and donor relations program from the ground up. She also led a brand strategy project as a special assistant to the university president. The University of Montana Foundation’s productivity increased significantly during Beth’s tenure. The year she started, the foundation raised $14 million. In 2014, donors contributed $44 million.
Beth got her start in fundraising in 2005 as director of development communications for the University of Missouri, Columbia. She managed marketing and communications for the university’s first $1 billion campaign, which exceeded its goal in 2008.
Beth began her own strategic communications firm in 2015. Hammock Communications’ clients included Luciad, a geospatial software developer, University of Missouri-Kansas City Foundation, University of Missouri-Kansas City Honors College, University of Central Missouri Alumni Foundation, University of Alaska Fairbanks, University of Alaska Foundation, and the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
Turn the Page Online Marketing asked Beth to open its St. Louis office in 2017. After learning the ropes in digital marketing, Beth decided to return to managing her own firm. She is committed to helping organizations grow through savvy storytelling across multiple digital platforms.
Beth has spoken on strategic communications and marketing across the country. Highlights of her leadership in the field include:
• Member of the faculty of the annual Council for the Advancement and Support of Education Campaign Communications Conference in 2011. Beth presented on several topics including using social media to engage donors.
• Presented to the Mid-America Association of Fundraising Professionals, October 2016. Topic was using video to steward donors.
• Numerous presentations at the University of Montana regarding brand development and integrated communications in a large organization. Spoke to the president’s cabinet, faculty senate, all campus administrators, foundation board and more.
• President of Missouri School Public Relations Association, 2002-2003. Presented to Missouri Association of School Administrators.
• In 2014, Beth coordinated judging of the fundraising videos for the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education’s Circle of Excellence Awards. In 2009, she led the judging of fundraising publications for the same competition.
• As a member of the University of Missouri Marketing Committee, she urged the university to be an early adopter of Facebook. She also coined the term the Mizzou Advantage, the brand of the university’s consortium of signature centers.
Beth is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She received accreditation in public relations in 2005. A mother of four adult children, she lives in St. Louis with her Welsh corgi.
Director of Digital Marketing
Max manages search engine marketing and Facebook advertising. Max is Google Adwords certified. He also is a landscape photographer and graphic artist. St. Louis is basecamp for Max, but most of the time he is on the road vlogging and looking for that next great shot.
Max is an alum of both the University of Missouri and Montana State University. He is the oldest of Beth’s three sons.
